Luís Mateus

I graduated with a bachelor's degree in Mathematics and with a Master's degree in Mathematical-Physics from the Faculty of Sciences at Lisbon University (FCUL). For the Master's thesis I studied some aspects of mathematical formalism in Quantum Mechanics and how the lack of mathematical concern can lead to (apparent) contraditions.

I am currently working for my Ph.D. degree in Mathematics. The aim of the research is to apply Stochastic Analysis to the study of epidemiological models in population biology. I've been focusing on parameter estimation and model comparison between models for which analytic solutions can be provided. The aspects of model selection in a Bayesian framework can be applied to real world influenza data, namely those from InfluenzaNet.
